Job Description
The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to help lead the property’s accounting operations and maintain reliable, timely financial reporting. This onsite role in Denver, CO oversees day-to-day accounting workflows and internal controls, supporting accurate results in line with established policies, procedures, GAAP, and applicable laws and regulations.
Working closely with the Hotel Controller, the Assistant Controller / Assistant Director of Finance supervises core finance functions, coordinates reporting, and may step in for the Controller when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cashier and Night Audit teams, including interviewing, recommending hiring, training, development, scheduling, coaching, and counseling; recommend performance and salary reviews; resolve operational problems; support open communications and recommend discipline or termination as appropriate.
- Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure compliance with SOPs and LSOPs, GAAP, and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements to ensure financial information is accurate and available.
- Prepare financial statements and management reports to support accurate, timely decision-making.
- Assist with the annual budget and forecasting process, including taxes and other financial reporting, to provide support for management and owners.
- Train, monitor, and coordinate implementation and ongoing maintenance of financial and cash controls and information flow across other hotel departments to ensure compliance, accurate records, and minimized liabilities, losses, and expenses.
- Troubleshoot issues and ensure accounting systems and equipment are maintained to support smooth operations.
- Analyze tenants, leases, and rent reports to support compliance with hotel leases and management contracts.
- Assume the Controller’s responsibilities in his/her absence.
Requirements
- At least 2 to 4 years of hotel accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Knowledge of all functions performed by subordinate staff reporting directly or indirectly to the Hotel Controller.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality; experiential knowledge for managing people and handling complex problems.
- Ability to analyze activities or information involving some original data manipulation or interpretation to reach logical conclusions.
- Ability to make decisions guided by established policies and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively to provide information and services, supported by supervisory skills.
