Controller / Director of Finance

The Controller / Director of Finance will oversee the financial operations of a $15M multi-entity enterprise in Rockford, IL. This onsite role combines hands-on accounting leadership with strategic support for executive leadership, including capital allocation analysis, cash forecasting, and profitability visibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in executive management meetings, evaluate capital allocation initiatives, develop ROI models for capital investments, and deliver forward-looking financial projections.
• Direct all month-end and year-end closing activities for multi-entity operations, maintaining strict GAAP compliance.
• Oversee and optimize accounting workflows using NetSuite and QuickBooks environments.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3–4 accounting professionals covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and billing functions.
• Manage state and federal compliance, including multi-jurisdiction sales/use tax returns, and serve as the primary point of contact for external CPA and audit teams.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, review and interpret variance reports, and maintain dynamic multi-week cash flow models.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
• 5–8+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Strong proficiency in NetSuite and QuickBooks.
• Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and data evaluation.
• Demonstrated capability leading direct reports, presenting to executive teams, and connecting operational accounting work to business strategy.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA or Master of Accountancy preferred.

Compensation

Estimated salary range: USD 110,000 - 140,000 per year.
