Job Description
Flagstar Bank offers competitive pay for an experienced credit professional, plus a comprehensive leave program and a full suite of insurance coverage including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability. This role is remote and provides the opportunity to work independently while partnering across sales and legal to support strong, compliant equipment finance decisions.
Responsibilities
- Independently lead underwriting for complex loan requests, assessing creditworthiness and recommending risk-mitigating structures within an assigned specialized vertical or region.
- Continuously monitor an assigned loan portfolio to proactively identify credit risks, trends, and concerns related to financial performance.
- Partner with sales during negotiations and client discussions, balancing client needs with the bank’s risk appetite.
- Collaborate with legal teams to review and negotiate credit agreements, supporting compliance with bank policies and risk management frameworks.
- Provide guidance to junior credit professionals by improving credit capabilities and reinforcing a strong credit culture; identify and raise areas to leadership for process and procedure improvements.
- Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions regarding the assigned portfolio and analyze or resolve portfolio-related issues.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree (4 years or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in commercial credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management.
- 5+ years of experience in the direct specialized line of business (for example: specialized commercial industries, capital markets, or corporate commercial banking).
- Advanced financial modeling and risk assessment expertise.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to collaborate with clients.
- Experience structuring complex loan transactions.
- Ability to analyze macroeconomic trends and understand their impact on credit risk.
Tools & Skills
Working knowledge of financial analysis tools, CRM systems, and underwriting software supports day-to-day credit analysis, structuring, and portfolio monitoring.
Compliance & Additional Accountabilities
- Perform special projects and additional duties as required.
- Adhere to regulatory and compliance policies and standards tied to the role, complete required compliance trainings, and maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Physical demands (ADA): No unusual physical exertion is involved.
Pay range: $114,837.00 - $181,665.00 per year.
