Director of Finance
Job Description
As a senior finance leader, you will help guide Congregation Mishkan Or.’s financial strategy, reporting, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to develop and execute the organization’s financial strategy.
- Deliver financial modeling, forecasting, and scenario analysis to support strategic decisions, new programs, and growth initiatives.
- Serve as a strategic financial advisor to organizational leadership.
- Lead the annual budgeting process across departments and programs.
- Create and maintain multi-year financial forecasts and track performance against budget and strategic goals.
- Provide ongoing financial analysis, reporting, and dashboards to the Executive Director and Board.
- Ensure accurate, timely financial statements in line with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Oversee the annual audit and manage relationships with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and funder reporting requirements, including Form 990.
- Manage financial operations for restricted and unrestricted funds, government grants, and foundation contracts.
- Support grant compliance, including cost allocation, indirect rates, and reporting deadlines.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and organizational reserves in alignment with Board-approved policies.
- Monitor liquidity and advise leadership on cash management strategies.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and strengthen financial integrity.
- Oversee insurance, risk assessments, tax filings, and related regulatory compliance.
- Act as primary staff liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees.
- Prepare financial materials and presentations for Board meetings and support the Board’s fiduciary oversight responsibilities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team.
- Strengthen financial systems, policies, and processes to support growth and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior finance role, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, fund accounting, and government/foundation grant compliance.
- Proven experience managing audits, budgets, and Board relationships.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency with financial management software, including one or more of: QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar nonprofit platforms.

Compensation
- Pay: USD 130,000 - 150,000 per year
