Job Description

The Finance Director at Grand Island Casino Resort serves as a senior financial leader responsible for guiding all financial operations. This role encompasses budgeting, revenue reporting, disbursement of funds, risk management, and the leadership of Accounting, Cage & Count, and Purchasing functions to support strong financial health and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Accounting, Cage, Count and Purchasing policies align with GAAP and are consistent with Illinois gaming laws, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Develop and uphold internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Plan and direct accurate forecasting and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with external reporting requirements.
  • Lead and manage the Accounting, Cage, Count, and Purchasing teams and staff.
  • Set short and long term departmental goals, policies and operating procedures.
  • Coordinate financial statements, annual reports, audits, and other information requests, maintaining the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Oversee daily revenue and related financial reporting, comparing results to budget, forecast, and prior year figures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of taxes and regulatory documents.
  • Establish department standards and administrative processes, including budgeting and staffing plans for efficient operation.
  • Be responsible for audits of all monies and revenue-generating areas.
  • Manage the monthly general ledger posting process.
  • Travel to other Elite Casino properties to understand their finance operations and assist with projects as needed.
  • Maintain the accounting system, asset legitimacy, and proper accounting and inventory of assets.
  • Collaborate with departments to resolve issues related to revenue audits.
  • Track regulatory findings, including gaming taxes, W-2Gs, Title 31/AML, and Bank Secrecy Act filings, ensuring timely and accurate submission.
  • Ensure timely payment of gaming taxes and other regulatory fees, while delivering excellent guest service to internal and external customers.
  • Oversee the Finance department operations, staff performance, and overall guest experience.
  • Effectively manage, delegate, and develop department staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and termination as needed.
  • Manage expenses within budget guidelines and business volumes, including payroll considerations.
  • Perform personnel duties within the span of control as required.
  • Maintain reasonable accessibility by phone for business purposes.
  • Foster cooperation, clear communication, and teamwork across all departments.
  • Support compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements, including controls for underage and intoxicated guests.
  • Adhere to laws and policies to maintain a non-discriminatory and compliant workplace.
  • Promote safety and security for guests and employees.
  • Complete duties with minimal supervision, maintain attendance, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Occasionally serve as Manager on Duty (MOD), supervising casino operations and staff during shifts.
  • Adapt to changing duties, hours, and assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a minimum of five years in a director or equivalent role.
  • Experience in Cage/Count and Accounting within gaming, including casino operations, with at least five years in gaming.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel and accounting software.
  • Working knowledge of fixed asset accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and data analysis.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities and workflow in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Skilled in planning, delegation, time management, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Capable of performing duties under time pressure and in an interruptive environment.
  • Proficiency with telephone, copy/fax, hand-held radio, and department-specific equipment and software.
  • Strong Windows-based computer skills, including Excel and database management.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and sustain focus for extended periods.
  • Ability to handle a broad set of tasks and deadlines with an irregular schedule.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities for interaction with guests and colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work in a casino and office environment with typical noise, lighting, and smoke considerations.
  • Must hold a valid gaming license per Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission requirements.
  • Must complete all required company training within specified timeframes.
