Job Description

Farnsworth Group is seeking a Finance Director to provide strategic financial leadership across the enterprise. The role works closely with the CFO and executive and business unit leaders, owning core planning, analysis, reporting, and key initiatives spanning M&A support, capital planning, captive insurance modeling, and real estate financial management.

Role Overview

  • Oversee financial management, planning, analysis, and reporting for Farnsworth Group.
  • Partner with leadership on enterprise-wide budgeting and forecasting, capital allocation priorities, and multi-year financial planning.
  • Contribute to strategic areas including M&A, captive insurance program support, and enterprise real estate financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial due diligence for acquisitions and strategic partnerships or joint ventures.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support enterprise valuations, deal structures, valuations, synergies, and ROI analysis.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel and internal stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Prepare executive-level M&A memos, deal summaries, and board presentation materials.
  • Support post-close integration, including financial systems consolidation and reporting alignment.
  • Own and manage the annual enterprise-wide budgeting process in collaboration with department and business unit leaders.
  • Develop multi-year financial plans aligned to organizational strategy and capital allocation priorities.
  • Establish budgeting timelines, templates, and governance processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance, communicate variances, and recommend actions to leadership.
  • Lead FP&A and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages to senior or group leaders.
  • Build rolling forecasts and conduct scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide analytical support for major capital investments, pricing decisions, and new business opportunities.
  • Design and maintain KPI dashboards and financial metrics aligned with operational and strategic objectives.
  • Perform detailed variance analyses versus budget, forecast, and prior-period results, identifying root causes and actionable recommendations.
  • Prepare monthly management reporting packages including executive summaries, trend analyses, and commentary.
  • Support department leaders in understanding financial results and driving corrective actions where needed.
  • Own dynamic cash flow modeling to project short- and long-term liquidity needs, including daily cash positioning and working capital optimization.
  • Partner with banking relationships to manage short-term investments, marketable securities, credit facilities, shareholder distributions, and investment activity.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Controller on cash flow forecasting that integrates accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll cycles.
  • Serve as primary financial liaison for the organization’s captive insurance program, including captive reporting, premium allocations, loss reserve reviews, and regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate with captive managers, actuaries, and legal counsel on program structure, compliance, and renewals; analyze performance metrics to recommend improvements to deductibles, coverage limits, and policy effectiveness.
  • Manage financial aspects of the real estate portfolio, including lease accounting under ASC 842; model implications of new leases, renewals, terminations, and amendments.
  • Partner with facilities and operations on real estate strategy, occupancy cost analysis, furniture expenditures, and space optimization.
  • Develop and manage the annual capital expenditure (CapEx) budget; establish a CapEx approval framework including justification, prioritization, and authorizations.
  • Build and maintain CapEx models to evaluate ROI, payback periods, and NPV for proposed investments.
  • Track and report CapEx spending versus approved budgets and provide variance analyses.
  • Support long-range planning for equipment replacement, fleet vehicles, and office upgrades.
  • Draft and review financial memos, education sessions, and board materials; translate complex financial data into concise narratives for executive audiences.
  • Prepare investment committee materials and strategic analysis documents as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a business-related field required; MBA is an alternative option to a bachelor’s degree in business.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive finance experience, including 3–5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading M&A financial due diligence and integration efforts.
  • Proven track record managing FP&A, budgeting, and cash flow modeling for a mid-size organization ($100M–$500M in annual sales).
  • Experience with captive insurance program preferred.
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate leases.
  • 3–5 years of Treasury and Portfolio management experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex financial modeling and data analysis.
  • ERP systems experience (Deltek Vantagepoint, Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Infor, MS Dynamics) and financial reporting platforms.
  • Microsoft 365 proficiency including Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools is a plus.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Normal, IL (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 175,000 - 215,000 per year
  • Salary determination based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal and external equity
