Job Description

Farnsworth Group is hiring a Finance Director to deliver strategic financial leadership across enterprise-wide planning, reporting, and performance. In this onsite role in Springfield, IL (with additional posting locations across the region), you will partner with the CFO, executive leadership, and business unit leaders while playing a key role in M&A, capital planning, captive insurance modeling, real estate financial management, and budgeting and forecasting.

What you’ll do

  • Lead financial due diligence for potential acquisitions and strategic partnerships or joint ventures.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support enterprise valuations, deal structures, synergies, and return on investment.
  • Coordinate with legal counsel and internal stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Prepare executive-level M&A memos, deal summaries, and board presentation materials.
  • Support post-close integration activities, including financial systems consolidation and reporting alignment.
  • Own the annual enterprise-wide budgeting process with department and business unit leaders, including budgeting timelines, templates, and governance.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual results, identify variances, and communicate recommended actions to leadership.
  • Build multi-year financial plans aligned to organizational strategy and capital allocation priorities.
  • Lead FP&A and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages to senior and group leaders.
  • Develop rolling forecasts and scenario analyses to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide analytical support for major capital investments, pricing decisions, and new business opportunities.
  • Design and maintain KPI dashboards and financial metrics tied to operational and strategic objectives.
  • Perform detailed variance analyses versus budget, forecast, and prior periods, including root-cause identification and actionable recommendations.
  • Produce monthly management reporting packages with executive summaries, trends, and commentary.
  • Maintain dynamic cash flow models to project short- and long-term liquidity needs and optimize working capital.
  • Partner with banking relationships to manage short-term investments, marketable securities, credit facilities, shareholder distributions, and investment activity.
  • Partner with the Senior Controller to align cash flow forecasting with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll cycles.
  • Serve as primary financial liaison for the captive insurance program, including captive reporting, premium allocations, loss reserve reviews, and regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate with captive managers, actuaries, and legal counsel on program structure, compliance, and renewals, and analyze performance metrics to optimize coverage.
  • Manage financial aspects of the real estate portfolio, including lease accounting under ASC 842 and modeling impacts of new leases, renewals, terminations, and amendments.
  • Partner with facilities and operations on real estate strategy, occupancy cost analysis, furniture expenditures, and space optimization.
  • Develop and manage the annual capital expenditure (CapEx) budget and CapEx approval framework, including ROI/payback/NPV modeling and CapEx variance reporting.
  • Support long-range planning cycles for equipment replacement, fleet vehicles, and office upgrades.
  • Draft and review financial memos, education sessions, and board materials; translate complex analysis into concise narratives for executives and prepare investment committee materials.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related business field required; MBA is an alternative option to a bachelor’s degree in business.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including 3–5 years in a senior finance leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading M&A financial due diligence and integration efforts.
  • Proven track record managing FP&A, budgeting, and cash flow modeling for a mid-size organization ($100M–$500M in annual sales).
  • Experience with captive insurance preferred and familiarity with commercial real estate leases.
  • 3–5 years of Treasury and Portfolio management experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex financial modeling and data analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Vantagepoint, Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, Infor, MS Dynamics) and financial reporting platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Business intelligence and data visualization tools experience is a plus.

Location and compensation

  • Onsite: Springfield, IL
  • Posting locations: Champaign, Lisle, Normal, Peoria, Springfield, IL; Dallas, TX; St. Louis, MO; Waukee, IA
  • Salary: $175,000–$215,000 per year (salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal and external equity)
