Finance Director
Job Description
BROC Community Action seeks a Finance Director to lead the organization’s financial health, integrity, and long-term sustainability. This full-time, on-site leadership role is based in Rutland, VT and reports directly to the CEO, supporting the organization’s mission through sound fiscal management, compliance, and accurate reporting.
Working as a key partner to senior leadership, you will oversee budgeting and forecasting, monitor cash flow and financial performance, and ensure internal controls and grant financial processes are operating effectively. The position also serves as the primary point of contact for the annual audit and provides clear financial reporting to leadership and the Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic financial leadership and guidance to the CEO and leadership team.
- Supervise a small, efficient Finance Department.
- Develop and oversee the organization’s annual operating budget and long-term financial plans.
- Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and overall financial performance to support organizational sustainability.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Analyze financial trends and provide recommendations to support strategic planning and operational decisions.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Establish, monitor, and strengthen internal controls and financial policies to safeguard organizational assets.
- Oversee grant financial management, including budgeting, reporting, reimbursement requests, and compliance with funding requirements.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit and act as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure the accuracy of all financial records.
- Present financial reports and analysis clearly for leadership and the Board of Directors at the monthly Board meeting.
- Supervise financial operations while promoting continuous process improvements and efficiencies.
- Collaborate with program leaders to develop program budgets, monitor expenditures, and maximize funding resources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, including significant nonprofit financial management.
- Experience building and managing complex organizational budgets, cash flow forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices.
- Experience managing grant funding, including financial reporting and compliance.
- Proven experience coordinating annual financial audits and maintaining strong internal controls.
- Experience overseeing tax compliance and nonprofit reporting requirements, including federal, state, and local filings.
- Strong skills in financial statement preparation, financial analysis, and strategic financial reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial management systems; Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across departments.
- Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences, including executive leadership and the Board.
- Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical financial stewardship.

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, on-site position. Salary is $85,000 to $90,000 per year (starting between $85,000-$90,000) plus benefits.
