Job Description
The Financial Controller role at Action Solar is a full-time leadership position based in Lehi, Utah, reporting to the CFO. The incumbent will safeguard the integrity of financial records, oversee accounting operations, lead accounts receivable and accounts payable, and design scalable financial systems to support growth.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close process, delivering a documented close checklist and achieving a close cycle of seven business days or fewer by Q3, with no restatements.
- Harden NetSuite by conducting a comprehensive chart of accounts review, standardizing job costing across commercial, industrial, and residential segments, and eliminating manual workarounds from the December 2025 go-live.
- Establish and maintain a consistent reporting cadence, delivering accurate monthly P&L and balance sheet packages to the CFO and leadership with variance commentary.
- Direct AR and AP functions, set coding and documentation standards, manage vendor payments, improve collections discipline, and reduce aged AR over 60 days by 25% within the first two quarters.
- Lay the foundation of internal controls by documenting and implementing baseline controls across AP, payroll, and cash management within the first 90 days.
- Own tax compliance operations, including payroll tax deposits and filings, 1099 preparation, multi-state registrations and local licenses, and annual entity reporting; serve as the primary liaison to the external CPA for income tax return preparation and year-end workpapers.
- Manage and develop the accounting team as it grows (AP clerk, bookkeeper, staff accountant), setting clear expectations and driving performance and skill development.
- Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, year-end audit or review, and ad hoc financial analysis including M&A due diligence as opportunities arise.
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and project-based revenue recognition, with a preference for percentage-of-completion for EPC contexts.
- Proficiency in NetSuite ERP, including building and troubleshooting saved searches, understanding the data model, and independently resolving coding issues.
- Experience with multi-state tax compliance: payroll tax, 1099s, local business licenses, and nexus tracking across states.
- CPA license strongly preferred; accounting degree required.
- Solid Excel skills; Power BI or similar BI tool experience is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: USD 90,000 – 120,000 per year, depending on experience and CPA status
- Bonus: Performance-based, tied to close quality, controls implementation, and team development
