Job Description
Public Policy Associates, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and drive the monthly financial close from its Lansing, Michigan office, with a hybrid work arrangement. This role partners with internal teams to provide reliable financial guidance and supports sound decision-making across the organization.
Position Summary
The Controller acts as a hands-on leader responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting workflow, actively contributing to monthly financial reporting, and serving as a key resource for internal staff to troubleshoot issues and support prudent financial choices.
Responsibilities
- Handle hands-on accounting tasks, including preparation of monthly financial statements and accompanying schedules
- Manage the month-end and year-end close cycles
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities
- Serve as the primary day-to-day resource for accounting and finance-related problem solving for internal staff
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Oversee cash flow, banking relationships, and financial reporting
- Support audits and act as liaison with external auditors as needed
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and implement efficiencies within the accounting function
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
- Proven experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting role
- Hands-on experience preparing monthly financial statements
- Government contracting experience required
- Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and Deltek cost accounting system (preferred but not required)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
