Job Description

Orbweaver, a growing provider of supply chain software and integration solutions, is seeking a Financial Controller to join the team in Burr Ridge, IL with hybrid work options. This hands-on leadership role oversees end-to-end accounting operations, monthly closes, ASC 606 SaaS revenue recognition, GAAP reporting, and external-audit coordination as the company scales its SaaS business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the close calendar, journal entries, account reconciliations, and the trial balance.
  • Manage the general ledger, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and prepaid/accrual schedules.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and written accounting policies aligned with US GAAP.
  • Own the full-cycle accounts payable process: vendor onboarding and W-9/1099 setup, purchase-order and invoice matching, GL coding, approval routing, payment runs, and vendor reconciliations and inquiries.
  • Own the full-cycle accounts receivable process: customer billing and invoicing, cash application, collections and dunning, and resolution of billing disputes.
  • Maintain AR and AP aging and manage DSO and DPO to protect working capital.
  • Reconcile AR and AP subledgers to the general ledger each period and maintain the related accrual and allowance estimates, including the allowance for credit losses.
  • Keep billing tied to the CRM/billing system and to the ASC 606 revenue schedules so invoicing, recognized revenue, and AR stay in agreement.
  • Own revenue recognition for subscription and services arrangements under ASC 606, including performance-obligation analysis, contract modifications, and multi-element allocations.
  • Maintain deferred revenue and contract-asset schedules; reconcile recognized revenue to billings and to the CRM/billing system each period.
  • Reconcile ARR/CARR and bookings to GAAP revenue, and work with revenue operations to keep the ARR waterfall accurate across new, expansion, contraction, and churn.
  • Prepare timely, accurate GAAP financial statements and the monthly management reporting package, with variance analysis against budget and prior period.
  • Prepare lender and investor reporting, including debt covenant calculations and compliance certificates.
  • Coordinate sales/use tax, income tax, and other filings with outside tax advisors; monitor SaaS sales-tax nexus.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the annual external audit; prepare workpapers and the PBC list and resolve auditor requests.
  • Design and maintain internal controls over financial reporting that fit the company’s size and risk profile.
  • Support customer and partner compliance requirements, including security and audit clauses in customer contracts (eg SOC reporting).
  • Own cash management, bank reconciliations, and short-term cash forecasting.
  • Forecast working-capital needs and time funding and disbursements against the cash position.
  • Administer and improve the accounting/ERP and billing systems; keep a clean integration between the CRM (HubSpot), billing, and the general ledger.
  • Document accounting processes and build workflows that scale as the company grows.
  • Manage and develop accounting staff and outside service providers.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and board and investor materials; provide analysis for pricing, contracts, and strategic decisions.
  • Support diligence and integration for potential financing or M&A activity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including time as a controller, assistant controller, or accounting manager.
  • Direct SaaS / subscription-software accounting experience, including ASC 606 revenue recognition and deferred revenue.
  • Ownership of a full monthly close and preparation of GAAP financial statements.
  • Hands-on ownership of full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable, including billing, collections, and vendor management.
  • Experience managing or supporting an external audit.
  • Strong Excel skills and hands-on experience with a cloud accounting/ERP system.
