Job Description
Financial Controller role in a specialty finance company located in New York, NY onsite, offering USD 135,000 to 175,000 per year and requiring at least 6 years of progressive accounting leadership plus a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related technical discipline.
Responsibilities
- Own the Core Financial Close: Lead the end-to-end monthly and annual close, ensuring precise general ledger work, reconciliations, and GAAP-compliant revenue recognition.
- Drive Strategic FP&A and Capital Markets: Direct the annual budgeting process, sustain rolling forecasts, and partner with the CFO to build predictive models on portfolio performance, cost control, and equity trends.
- Deliver a Technology Lift: Assess and upgrade the accounting tech stack, implement integrations, and automate data pipelines to handle high volumes from alternative finance transactions.
- Manage and Scale Global Teams: Oversee corporate accounting operations, coordinate project workflows, and lead domestic staff alongside offshore back-office operations.
- Direct Audits and Compliance Reporting: Serve as primary liaison for external audits, bank collateral examinations, and tax preparation while upholding a robust internal control framework.
Requirements
- 6 to 12 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience, blending institutional rigor with fast-paced execution.
- Hybrid background: formal public accounting or corporate audit foundation with a track record of transitioning into internal corporate accounting, complex financial reporting, and FP&A functions.
- Technical and industry acumen: strong GAAP knowledge, multi-department budgeting, and advanced financial modeling. Prior exposure to transactional accounting, specialty finance, asset-based lending, or corporate banking is a major asset.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a closely related technical discipline; CPA or similar advanced accounting certification is highly preferred.
