Job Description
Flores Food Group is scaling its operations across multiple states, and it needs a Financial Controller to help keep the day-to-day finance function accurate, compliant, and ready for new locations. This role is hands-on across the accounting stack, including QuickBooks operations, monthly close, sales tax compliance coordination, and financial reporting for the co-founders.
As a remote Financial Controller, you will build repeatable processes while working closely with external tax and SALT specialists, ensuring the company’s financial infrastructure supports growth across manufacturing, workplace dining, and catering.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the general ledger and run the monthly financial close in QuickBooks
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow across the business
- Own the multi-state sales tax compliance calendar and coordinate filings for KY, OH, and NY, with expansion planned to MI, MO, and IL
- Set up and maintain trust accounts for state sales tax collections across all states
- Manage the weekly Aramark deficit reconciliation and invoicing process
- Coordinate with an external CPA on income tax filings and general tax work
- Coordinate with an external SALT specialist on nexus, exemption certificates, and multi-state matters
- Oversee payroll processing (or manage a payroll service provider) for 51-100 employees
- Manage bank reconciliations and support treasury operations
- Produce monthly financial statements, including segment-level P&L across three revenue lines: manufacturing, workplace dining, and catering
- Own compliance infrastructure for new location openings, including state registration, POS tax configuration, vendor resale certificates, and filing setup
- Manage the chart of accounts and financial systems
- Track and manage vendor exemption certificates and customer exemption documentation
- Support annual audit and tax preparation processes
- Provide financial reporting and analysis to the co-founders
- Document processes and build repeatable systems as the company scales
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10+ years of accounting experience with progressive responsibility
- 5+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role
- Deep experience with QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop
- Multi-state sales tax and compliance experience
- Experience in food service, hospitality, manufacturing, or multi-location retail
- Ownership mindset, comfort being the go-to for finance and accounting
- Ability to work remotely with strong communication skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize across competing demands

- Salary: USD 85,000 - 115,000 per year

Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA credential
- Experience with multi-entity or complex organizational structures
- Prior experience at a growing company scaling from a few states to many
- Experience with 1099 contractor-heavy workforces
- Familiarity with workplace hospitality, contract food service, or industrial catering
- Experience coordinating with SALT specialists and tax advisors
