Job Description
Support underwriting and portfolio management for a multi-billion project finance loan portfolio on the Power & Project Finance team.
Responsibilities
- Support underwriting and portfolio management activities across Power & Project Finance
- Provide coverage of key banking relationships and credit through the underwriting and portfolio management process
- Conduct due diligence, provide structuring recommendations, and deliver in-depth credit analysis for prospective opportunities, new underwrites, and ongoing credit monitoring
- Contribute to credit production including underwriting memos, annual reviews, trend cards, construction monitoring, client requests, and counterparty reviews
- Own and manage an assigned credit portfolio, including underwriting all types of credit exposures and managing credit risk
- Take ownership for the timeliness and assessment of credit for a portion of account names and new business accounts
- Manage multiple workflows by providing timely feedback and maintaining a punctual schedule for ongoing portfolio management activity
- Perform portfolio management activities such as periodic reviews and covenant tracking
- Analyze credit data to assess creditworthiness, support underwriting, and develop individual credit recommendations for the Sales team and clients
- Prepare underwriting memorandums and approval documents for presentation to Credit Risk
- Practice risk management aligned with the Bank’s credit risk appetite and comply with institutional and regulatory requirements
- Partner with Relationship Manager(s) to manage credit account relationships and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives
- Provide elevated client service by understanding client needs and delivering tailored credit solutions
- Participate in joint sales pitches with Relationship Manager(s)
- Mentor junior colleagues and support training and education; foster continuous improvement and professional growth
- Contribute to team and business development through projects and initiatives aligned with the growth plan
- Adhere to Power & Project Finance group policies, guidelines, and desktop procedures, and follow broader bank policies, processes, and procedures
- Present credit recommendations within the bank’s risk appetite and framework
- Help raise the Power & Project Finance team profile through travel and conference participation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Finance, Business, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressively increasing credit underwriting and portfolio management experience in relevant industry/industries
- Strong critical thinking skills to analyze data, form a point of view, and make recommendations to senior management
- Strong oral and written communication skills for credit documentation and processing
- Ability to build relationships across the organization to support growth and productivity
- Basic experience in credit management and lending operations with an understanding of risk management principles
- Desire to grow personally and professionally, collaborate with teammates, and support business growth

Additional Information
- Location: Los Angeles, CA (onsite)
- Salary range: USD 53 - 91 per hour
- This job may be eligible for bonus and/or commissions
- Unless fully remote, reporting into a designated City National location is an essential function of the job
