Vice President of Finance
Job Description
Colen Built Development is hiring an experienced finance leader to drive financial operations and support sustainable, long-term growth for a construction and land development organization. This in-person role in Ocala, FL combines strategic ownership with hands-on execution, including FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and multi-phase capital planning. You will partner across construction, land development, operations, and sales to align financial planning with company priorities.
What you’ll do
- Direct core financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, economic analysis, and financial reporting.
- Serve as a strategic finance advisor to executive leadership with actionable insights across construction projects, land development opportunities, and major capital investments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align financial processes with organizational objectives across business units.
- Evaluate and optimize scalable systems, tools, and reporting processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Provide comprehensive financial leadership for multi-phase development projects, including cost controls, margin analysis, and capital planning.
- Build and maintain detailed project-specific ROI analyses, business cases, and risk assessments to guide strategic decisions.
- Oversee organizational cash flow, working capital, and departmental budgets while supporting financing strategies, debt structuring, and banking relationships.
- Act as the organization’s Risk Manager for property and casualty and liability policies, supporting overall risk mitigation across all entities and lines of business.
- Oversee corporate insurance procurement and maintain relationships with national insurance brokerage firms to secure optimal coverage.
- Prepare and present accurate financial reporting to senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting standards, internal policies, and applicable legal requirements.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture grounded in accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform responsibilities in strict adherence to OTOW standards, company policies, and workplace safety guidelines, while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Insurance, or a related field (Master’s or MBA strongly preferred).
- CPA designation preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Minimum 5 years within the construction and/or land development industries.
- Experience in high-volume, production homebuilding, with proven background in construction operations, job costing, cost control, and margin management.
- Deep knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, project budgeting, real estate development cycles, and national insurance markets.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage complex financial models and dashboards for multi-phase residential development projects.
- Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard ERP and financial platforms (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore or similar).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence decisions and partner across departments and executive teams.
