Job Description
Based in Owensboro, Kentucky, this onsite Deputy Director of Finance role offers the stability of public service and a collaborative leadership culture. You will assist the Director of Finance in overseeing the city's accounting functions, guiding audits, financial reporting, and day to day operational accounting. The position starts at an annual pay of $109,190, with compensation aligned to experience, and comes with a benefits package designed to support health, retirement, and work-life balance.

Location: Owensboro, KY (onsite).
Starting pay: $109,190 per year, commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the Finance Accounting staff, including hiring, annual evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Oversee and assist with the City’s annual audit, including preparation of schedules and notes, and review of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Oversee the preparation of journal entries and monthly financial reports.
- Manage daily bank transactions and debt management tasks.
- Oversee the City’s Short-Term Rental program operations.
- Prepare and file year-end 1099s.
- Prepare budget adjustments for Finance Director approval.
- Oversee and assist with the Tax Increment Financing program, collecting tax information and preparing quarterly and annual reimbursements.
- Assist City staff with accounting questions and train staff in other departments as needed.
- Prepare federal program draws for Transit, HOME, and CDBG programs.
- Assist the Alcohol Beverage Control Administrator.
- Maintain and support the ERP system.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or its equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in a top-level accounting position (examples include Cost Accountant, Controller, or Deputy Director of Finance).
- Valid driver’s license.
