Job Description
The Finance Director at the Lapeer County Road Commission acts as the chief financial officer, coordinating budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. This position reports to the Managing Director and works with the management team to design and implement operating, administrative, fiscal programs, and policies.

- Location: Lapeer, MI (onsite)
- Salary: USD 75,000 - 90,000 per year
- Experience required: 5 years
- Education: High school or equivalent
Responsibilities
- Develops and tracks annual budgets along with long-range financial plans.
- Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills with a solid grasp of fiscal management and budget oversight.
- Maintains the accounting system in accordance with established and accepted governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Records and posts financial transactions and adjusting entries to the general ledger; supervises monthly reconciliations and all accounting activity.
- Provides information to auditors for the annual audit and MDOT audits.
- Serves as Board Secretary as appointed by the Board.
Requirements
- Proficiency in general ledger accounting and accounting terminology.
- Knowledge of transaction codes and procedures used in a complex computerized financial management system.
- Office procedures knowledge with proven ability to exercise discretion, good judgement, and initiative.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of general ledger accounting and accounting terminology; familiarity with transaction codes and procedures in a complex computerized financial management system; strong office procedures with demonstrated discretion, good judgement, and initiative.
Desirable Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field is desirable.
- A minimum of five years of experience in finance and/or accounting with emphasis on governmental or public agency accounting is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of Michigan Transportation Funding, governmental financing, and labor relations is a positive factor, as are experience with the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of In
