Finance Director
Job Description
Lead the Town of Snowmass Village’s Finance Department and shape financial planning for a community in Snowmass Village, Colorado. This onsite Finance Director role combines strategic oversight with hands-on leadership across budgeting, accounting, audits, investments, grants, debt management, payroll, and tax administration. You will advise the Town Manager and elected officials while managing a team that supports high-quality, accurate financial operations.
What you will do
- Direct and manage all aspects of the organization’s financial activities, including accounting, payroll and related benefits, and Town budgeting.
- Advise the Town Manager and department heads on economic objectives and fiscal policies, including interpretation of financial planning issues.
- Develop and manage strategies for effective financial planning and analysis, evaluating Town needs and recommending required financial resources.
- Interpret applicable laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines related to financial planning and procedures; establish and manage finance and budget policies and procedures to monitor performance.
- Provide overall direction to ensure accurate and timely financial operations across each Town fund and maintain quality in financial activities.
- Prepare, conduct, and develop the annual Town budget process, coordinating with department and division heads and reviewing submissions for justification of changes; present the budget to elected officials and the Financial Advisory Board.
- Oversee annual audit planning and review work plans supporting preparation of the annual financial report.
- Monitor budget and financial change analysis, including revenue cycles and financial planning activities.
- Manage debt and lease financing, including reviewing and recommending bond underwriters and proposals, reviewing bond closing documents, and handling financial election questions.
- Direct the Capital Improvement Program, developing funding worksheets for projects using restricted funding sources and maintaining fund balances.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct payroll and related benefit activities, including supervisory and advisory work in payroll administration.
- Oversee public official liability, property, and casualty insurance, including claim review/submission and the coverage and renewal process.
- Supervise and manage interpretation and collection of local sales tax and lodging tax, including auditing, delinquent collections, and interpretations of the applicable code and ordinance.
- Provide day-to-day supervision to the Assistant Finance Director, Finance Manager, and Financial Sales & Tax Analyst, including hiring, discipline, training, coaching, performance evaluation, and oversight.
- Supervise department employees and inform and advise the Town Manager and elected officials on financial matters.
What you bring
- Any combination of experience and training equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business or accounting, with course work in personnel or business administration.
- Six years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and risk management.
- Three years of supervisory experience.
- Five years of public sector experience preferred.
- Strategic and detail-oriented approach.
- Thorough knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Compensation and schedule
USD 65 - 95 per hourly. Onsite in Snowmass Village, CO.
