Financial Accounting Manager
Job Description
Louisiana Central is hiring a full-time Financial Accounting Manager to lead core accounting operations, keep financial records audit-ready, and manage grant-related reporting for a regional nonprofit in Alexandria, LA. This onsite role offers health insurance and paid time off, along with a 40-hour standard schedule with availability for monthly closeout and periodic meetings.
What You’ll Own
- Manage the organization’s QuickBooks Online environment, including the chart of accounts, accounts payable and receivable, purchase orders, invoicing, and vendor management.
- Complete bank, credit card, payroll, and restricted fund reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Produce monthly financial statements and dashboards for the Executive Leadership Team and the Executive Governance Board.
- Oversee payroll entries, allocations, and payroll-related reporting.
- Track cash flow and support budget monitoring across programs and departments.
- Maintain timely, accurate, organized financial records so the organization stays current on the status of all accounts and programs.
Grant Accounting and Compliance
- Apply GAAP standards for all grant-funded activities.
- Track grant revenue, expenditures, match requirements, and allowable costs.
- Maintain documentation for federal, state, and foundation grants, including reimbursement requests and quarterly or annual financial reports for grantors.
- Support grant-specific reviews and ensure documentation is audit-ready.
- Ensure adherence to federal and state nonprofit accounting requirements and maintain internal controls aligned with Louisiana Legislative Auditor best practices.
External Reporting and Team Support
- Prepare schedules, documentation, and responses for external auditors.
- Work closely with outside contracted accounting firms and auditing agencies to support accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of required reviews.
- Strengthen and maintain internal financial policies and procedures.
- Implement best-practice workflows for purchase orders, approvals, grant documentation, and expense tracking.
- Provide training and support to staff on financial processes, coding, and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in nonprofit accounting or grant-funded financial management.
- Demonstrated expertise with QuickBooks Online.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and grant compliance.
- Experience with federal and state tax filings for nonprofit organizations.
- Familiarity with Louisiana Legislative Auditor guidelines is strongly preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate clearly with leadership and staff.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Compensation and Logistics
Salary: USD 55,000 - 65,000 per year (commensurate with experience and qualifications). This is a full-time, exempt position with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week. The role is onsite in Alexandria, LA 71301, with required availability for monthly closeout and periodic meetings.
Additional Responsibilities for Annual Filings
- Support IRS Form 990 preparation, Louisiana charitable registration, annual reporting, and federal and state payroll tax filings.
