Job Description

The Financial Controller at Windham & Windsor Housing Trust directs the Finance Department, overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, cash management, and coordination of the parent 501(c)(3) organization and its 17 affiliated limited partnerships, partnering with executive leadership to ensure financial stability, transparency, regulatory compliance, and stewardship of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cash flow and develop short- and long-range financial forecasts
  • Compile monthly financial statements and dashboards for senior leadership and the board
  • Manage restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Produce financial reports for grant applications and funder reporting
  • Collaborate with development staff and program directors on budgeting for grant proposals
  • Provide actionable financial insights to support decision making
  • Establish and uphold internal controls appropriate for a small organization
  • Lead the efficient annual audit process
  • Thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, ideally with nonprofit or small organization experience
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and grant tracking
  • Experience handling full-cycle accounting independently
  • Familiarity with accounting software (MIP, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar) and strong Excel skills
  • Experience working with external auditors or accountants

Work Environment & Compensation

  • Full-time in-office position with opportunity to work remotely on occasion
  • Requires attendance at monthly board meetings
  • Salary range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year
