Job Description

Watershield Industries is seeking a Financial Controller to anchor the finance function across multiple entities, guiding a small accounting team and delivering consolidated statements for leadership. This role combines hands-on accounting leadership with strategic financial planning, providing a clear pathway to the Chief Financial Officer position as the company expands. The position offers the opportunity to operate in a hybrid setup based in Arvada, Colorado, supporting both operational needs and growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process across all business units.
  • Prepare and present consolidated financial statements to the executive team.
  • Maintain standalone entity reporting for each business unit while producing consolidated statements.
  • Create and sustain management reporting packages, KPI dashboards, and variance analyses.
  • Oversee core accounting functions: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures across all entities.
  • Supervise job costing and cost accounting for manufacturing operations; oversee inventory valuation across product lines.
  • Ensure sales tax compliance across multiple states and jurisdictions.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the external CPA firm for tax preparation and audits or reviews.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process for all business units and the holding company.
  • Collaborate with business unit managers to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and support operational decisions.
  • Provide cash flow forecasts and manage working capital to support operations and growth initiatives.
  • Oversee and continuously enhance shared services across the platform, including accounting, billing, and financial reporting infrastructure.
  • Administer and optimize the company’s accounting systems, currently QuickBooks Enterprise (Manufacturing edition).
  • Lead the evaluation and future implementation of an ERP system as the company scales.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities across finance and accounting functions.
  • Support financial due diligence for tuck-in acquisitions, including quality of earnings analysis and financial statement review.
  • Lead the financial integration of acquired entities into the holding company reporting structure and shared services platform.
  • Assist in developing post-acquisition reporting frameworks, intercompany eliminations, and combined entity analytics.
  • Directly manage a small accounting team; mentor, develop, and hold team members accountable.
  • Remain hands-on and willing to work alongside the team when needed.
  • Travel periodically to business unit locations, up to 10% of the time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing multi-entity or multi-site accounting consolidations.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge; manufacturing accounting and job costing experience are required.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise or comparable mid-market accounting software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a small team while remaining a hands-on contributor.
  • Sharp analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
  • High integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.
