Job Description
Hyde Park Church is seeking a Financial Controller to steward the accounting operations for its growing church and private Christian school in Austin, Texas. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this senior role combines hands-on financial management with strategic leadership to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and scalable financial systems. This onsite opportunity requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least eight years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
The Financial Controller acts as a trusted partner to ministry and school leadership, guiding budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis while maintaining day-to-day accounting integrity. You will oversee the general ledger, month-end close, and preparation of financial reports and dashboards for executive leadership, finance committees, and boards, all while fostering a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Direct day-to-day accounting operations for the church and school.
- Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements are produced accurately and on time.
- Manage general ledger activity, reconciliations, and the month-end close process.
- Maintain robust internal controls and financial policies.
- Assist the CFO with strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for executive leadership, finance committees, and boards.
- Assess current financial processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and financial transparency.
- Establish and implement best practices across accounting and finance functions.
- Collaborate with departments to improve workflows and organizational effectiveness.
- Leverage technology and automation to boost organizational performance.
- Supervise and develop accounting and finance staff.
- Set clear expectations, accountability, and professional growth paths for team members.
- Foster a culture of excellence, service, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate annual audits and maintain audit readiness throughout the year.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable regulations.
- Promote prudent stewardship of organizational resources.
- Oversee financial documentation and record retention.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to ministry, school, and operational leaders.
- Provide financial insight that informs organizational decision-making.
- Participate in strategic initiatives, special projects, and growth opportunities.
- Assist leadership in evaluating financial risks, opportunities, and long-term sustainability.
- Handle additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proven experience managing accounting operations and financial processes.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Pay
Salary: USD 125,000 - 150,000 per year
