Financial Crimes Product Owner – AML Monitoring
Job Description
Join Fifth Third Bank to help shape and deliver Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Economic Sanctions strategies through product ownership of AML monitoring technology. This onsite role in Cincinnati supports a financial crimes squad focused on improving money laundering and predicate crimes identification, while aligning work across squads to strengthen compliance outcomes.
What you’ll do
- Oversee timely, accurate delivery of projects that implement or enhance technology supporting financial crimes as a product owner on a financial crimes squad.
- Set squad priorities by balancing timelines, strategic goals, production issue resolution, and other critical items.
- Provide regular reporting on squad status, accomplishments, and challenges.
- Partner with subject matter experts in financial crimes to ensure project requirements are captured correctly and delivered as intended.
- Develop and maintain a roadmap for new or enhanced monitoring use cases, coordinating delivery with partners across multiple squads.
- Strengthen and implement the Line of Business compliance program in accordance with laws and regulations, including governance, policies and procedures, monitoring, reporting, communications, and education.
- Explain and prioritize critical AML projects with leaders of other squads.
- Prioritize technical and business needs to support a highly available system aligned with bank security and availability standards.
- Communicate business value and reasoning to support engineering and other team members, including training and enablement around why initiatives matter.
- Escalate significant issues to senior management and act as a liaison with regulators as appropriate.
- Maintain industry knowledge and relationships through networking, and stay current on division goals, regulatory and legislative developments, and industry trends.
- Support strategic direction by working with senior leadership to set departmental goals and execute against objectives.
- Participate in and/or lead peer meetings to build and maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues and risk.
- Oversee squad performance to help meet Financial Crimes division goals and support Bancorp’s continued success.
- Contribute to talent and team effectiveness through recruiting support, interviews, orientation, coaching, and ongoing two-way performance feedback.
- Encourage open dialogue to promote creative, out of the box problem solving.
- Review and implement approved solutions for the Regulatory Monitoring and Change Management program ownership.
What you’ll need
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Functional proficiency applying software applications (including Microsoft Office Suite) with minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and conceptualize basic statistical analysis and theories.
- Experience manipulating data through validating, correcting, reformatting, and transforming data across formats such as spreadsheets, flat files, and databases.
- Ability to oversee and plan technology budgets for future business needs.
- Strong analytical skills to gather, assess, and present quantitative and qualitative data.
- Ability to develop and support conclusions, make practical recommendations, and implement controlled, step-by-step processes.
- Capacity to plan and complete project work independently or with a team, including identifying responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines.
- Experience collaborating across units such as Legal, Audit, or Business units to identify and resolve problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate upward, downward, and laterally.
- Sound judgment and logical, critical thinking when developing and recommending solutions.
- Knowledge of the bank’s payments flow process, systems, and teams, with the ability to network to accomplish project goals.
- Ability to maintain professional composure while managing multiple competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong SQL and data skills to research issues and respond to regulator, audit, and management questions.

Compliance and training requirements
- Adhere to Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering reporting and record keeping requirements, including observing economic sanctions by prohibiting transactions specified by OFAC.
- Follow the bank’s Customer Identification Program (CIP) rules and all bank policies and procedures relating to BSA, OFAC, and CIP.
- Participate in ongoing related training.
