Head of Finance and Accounting

SkLO Studio in Healdsburg, CA seeks a senior finance leader to own the numbers and oversee all financial operations, reporting, close, payroll, payables, and analysis; this is not a team-management role.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting and finance operations, including reporting, month-end close, payroll, accounts payable, and financial analysis
• Streamline processes, implement better systems, and strengthen financial controls across the business
• Lead the monthly close process from start to finish
• Prepare accurate financial statements: income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
• Provide concise monthly reporting and analysis to leadership
• Maintain forecasts and assist with annual budgeting
• Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Process bi-weekly payroll
• Maintain general ledger and accounting records
• Develop and maintain straightforward, reliable standard operating procedures
• Analyze margins, costs, and trends
• Identify risks early and propose practical solutions
• Support leadership with data-driven insights, especially at year-end
• Improve workflows, reporting, and data architecture
• Implement tools, dashboards, and integrations as needed
• Build scalable processes to support growth
• Maintain internal controls and financial discipline
• Manage sales tax filings and coordinate with external accountants
• Support audits and regulatory compliance
• Review and process commission calculations
• Assist in implementing more automated and reliable systems
• Collaborate with sales, operations, and leadership
• Participate in regular business reviews
• Serve as the financial voice in strategic discussions

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting or finance
• Solid understanding of GAAP and complete financial statements
• Comfortable managing the entire month-end close
• Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and consistent
• Ability to explain financial results in clear, simple language
• Interest in improving systems, not solely maintaining them
