VP of Finance
Job Description
CFS is hiring a VP of Finance for a growing, project-based organization in San Jose, CA (onsite). This is a highly visible, hands-on finance leadership role focused on strengthening accounting and reporting, improving project financial visibility, and partnering with ownership and executive leadership to support growth and M&A integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the owner and executive leadership team to provide organization-wide financial leadership.
- Bring structure, visibility, and accountability to financial operations while staying hands-on and understanding the details behind the numbers.
- Act as a trusted financial partner to ownership and leadership to evaluate the financial impact of operational and strategic decisions.
- Provide visibility into project profitability, job costing, cash flow, backlog, margins, and overall business performance.
- Oversee and improve WIP and percentage-of-completion reporting to ensure accurate project financials for leadership.
- Strengthen the accounting function, including the P&L, chart of accounts, reporting structure, and core financial processes.
- Build stronger reporting and financial analysis to clarify what drives profitability, along with opportunities and risks.
- Partner with operations and project leadership to evaluate jobs, contracts, costs, change orders, and project performance.
- Build and improve processes, systems, and reporting as the organization grows.
- Support automation and systems improvements to increase efficiency, visibility, and scalability.
- Assist ownership in evaluating growth opportunities, investments, and potential acquisitions.
- Support M&A integration through financial diligence and by bringing acquired businesses into a consistent financial framework.
- Build structure around the existing finance/accounting team and develop processes to support anticipated growth.
- Provide finance leadership in an entrepreneurial, fast-moving environment with occasional ambiguity.
Qualifications
- Hands-on finance leader with strong accounting fundamentals and experience in a project-based environment.
- 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including experience at a Controller, VP Finance, CFO, or similar level.
- Strong understanding of WIP, percentage-of-completion, job costing, project accounting, and project profitability.
- Experience cleaning up or strengthening accounting and financial reporting processes.
- Proven ability to partner directly with an owner, CEO, or executive leadership team.
- Strong financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and business-driver analysis skills.
- Experience improving financial systems, reporting, automation, and processes.
- Exposure to M&A, acquisitions, or integration is highly valued.
- Combination of strategic thinking and willingness to work through details.
- Ability to operate effectively in a growing organization where not everything is fully defined.
About the Opportunity
This is a confidential search for a Vice President of Finance to join a growing, project-based organization in the San Jose, CA market. The role is designed for a finance executive who can partner closely with ownership while helping build the financial infrastructure needed for the company’s next stage of growth. This is not a traditional corporate finance position.
Compensation & Location
- Location: San Jose, CA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 200,000 - 220,000 per year
- Experience: 8+ years
