Hybrid role in Solomons, MD with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, offering a salary range of $120,000 to $185,000 per year. This full-time exempt position supports strategic initiatives and financial performance across the University, with a leadership partnership approach and opportunities to strengthen finance operations through process improvement, automation, and standardization.

Role overview
The Assistant Vice President for Finance partners with unit business leaders and University Administration leadership to drive budgeting, financial planning, analysis, and decision-making. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and supports financial strategy through policy development, KPI monitoring, forecasting, and continuous finance function improvements.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote operational excellence and efficiency
- Partner with unit business leaders and University Administration to support strategic planning and decision-making
- Create projections tied to potential changes in the University’s financial model
- Monitor KPIs and other financial metrics to support performance management
- Drive process improvements, including automation and standardization across finance functions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
- 6+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting (preferably within a research university)
- Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, financial planning, and managing financial services
- Experience with ERP systems (Workday preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial modeling
- MBA, MPA, or CPA strongly preferred
