Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer will direct the financial management of CSS, UJI, and related entities, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board. This executive role provides leadership in accounting, budgeting, strategic planning, and compliance audits to sustain financial integrity and organizational growth.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team to drive strategic results through ongoing planning processes.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board based on financial analysis, projections, cost allocation, and revenue/expense review.
- Direct and develop assigned personnel to deliver departmental deliverables and measurable outcomes.
- Oversee long and short term budget planning and cost management aligned with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
- Coordinate all external and internal financial reporting for the Organization in accordance with U.S. GAAP and OMB Circular A-133.
- Maintain adequate internal accounting controls and effective fraud prevention policies.
- Monitor cash flow and investments to ensure adequate liquidity for the Organization and related entities.
- Oversee banking relationships and activities.
- Attend Board of Directors, Investment and Audit Committee meetings and report on financial results for the Organization and its related entities.
- Procure all business insurance policies while ensuring adequate risk coverage for the Organization and its related entities.
- Monitor the operating results and operations of the Cathedral Residences and collaborate with the outside management agent for the HUD properties.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Business and/or Accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed by the State of Florida and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
- As an Officer of the corporation, demonstrate sound judgement, ethical standards, and exemplary leadership.
- Prefer at least five years of in-depth financial and reporting management experience in nonprofit entities with budgeted revenues of at least $10 million; experience with nonprofit audits is a plus.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting rules in accordance with U.S. GAAP and OMB Circular A-133.
- Knowledge of computerized financial, accounting, and management reporting systems.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting nonprofit entities.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data, prepare financial reports, statements, analyses, and projections, and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Measurable Evaluation of Performance
- Plan and coordinate CPA audits for all corporate and HUD entities to ensure timely audits and filing of audited financial statements with applicable funding entities before deadlines.
- Provide complete, accurate, and timely information to assist the CPA firm in preparing IRS Annual Form 990 for all entities, ensuring IRS compliance and timely filing within deadlines.
- Coordinate annual CPA audits for all corporate entities with external auditors and prepare external financial statements and footnotes.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial results reporting to the CEO, Audit Committee, and Board of Directors.
Financial Stewardship & Sustainability
- Maintain the long-term financial health of CSS, UJI, and related entities by keeping operating results within Board-approved budgets, with material variances analyzed and addressed through corrective actions.
- Ensure adequate liquidity and cash reserves to support uninterrupted senior services operations, avoiding missed payrolls, vendor payments, or program interruptions due to cash flow issues.
- Provide multi-year financial forecasts and scenario modeling to support sustainability, growth planning, and risk mitigation.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Facilitate the annual budgeting process for all departments, ensuring budgets are mission-aligned, realistic, and Board-approved on schedule.
- Monitor and report budget-to-actual performance monthly, delivering actionable insights to the CEO and executive team.
- Support program leadership with financial analysis related to senior services funding streams to maximize program effectiveness and financial performance.
Internal Controls & Financial Integrity
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve internal accounting controls and financial policies to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy, transparency, and accountability across all entities.
- Address identified control deficiencies promptly with documented corrective actions and follow-up verification.
- Ensure segregation of duties and sound financial practices appropriate for a nonprofit serving vulnerable senior populations.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- General business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50 percent of the time.
- Requires sitting at a computer for up to eight hours a day.
- Occasional movement within the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and to meet with personnel.
- Frequent operation of a computer and office productivity equipment such as a calculator, copier, and printer.
- Frequent communication with management personnel and employees; must exchange accurate information.
Compensation
USD 110,000 per year
