Job Description

Project Home in Portland, Maine (onsite) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer with a yearly salary range of USD 75,000 to 85,000.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate recording of all financial transactions in line with organizational policies.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Compile and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations (including Form 990), and donor-imposed restrictions.
  • Provide transparent financial reporting for internal stakeholders, funders, and board reporting.
  • Act as the main point of contact for annual financial audits.
  • Coordinate audit preparation, timelines, and documentation with external auditors.
  • Implement audit recommendations and enhance financial processes as required.
  • Manage grant accounting, including tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of restricted funds.
  • Ensure grant requirements and reporting deadlines are met.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Develop and continually improve internal control systems to protect organizational assets.
  • Monitor adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Identify risks and implement process improvements to boost efficiency and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant and fund accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills.

Position summary
