Job Description
Onsite in Wooster, Ohio, Christian Children's Home of Ohio seeks a strategic financial leader to guide accounting, budgeting, and overall financial stewardship in support of its mission.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coach the finance team, fostering a collaborative, team-first culture.
- Serve on the Executive Leadership Team, providing strategic partnership across departments and acting as a consultative adviser to agency leadership.
- Communicate the organization’s vision and direction to finance staff so every member understands their role and value in the agency’s success.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the accounting framework, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost time distribution, cash control, property control, and appropriation management.
- Review and evaluate accounts, reports, source documents, information systems, transaction records, and internal controls for adequacy and effectiveness.
- Provide budgeting guidance and fiscal procedure support to department heads, including use of funds and budget materials.
- Ensure GAAP compliance in adjustments, closings, and transactions to accurately report the agency’s financial position.
- Prepare GAAP-aligned financial statements in accordance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board requirements and applicable statutes, ensuring relevance, reliability, comparability, and clarity.
- Liaise with auditors, respond to inquiries, and monitor corrective action plans; maintain positive relationships with fiscal auditing bodies.
- Advise management on internal control measures to promote efficiency, reliability of financial data, and regulatory compliance.
- Establish policies and procedures to maintain financial integrity in the recording and reporting of transactions and results.
- Analyze and approve reports to help users assess service delivery costs, and interpret expenditures, revenues, and related trends.
- Review actual results against the adopted budget, analyze variances, and report on rate development and cost per unit; advise on lease versus buy, financing options, and cost-benefit considerations.
- Recommend financial objectives and oversee their execution across planning and operations.
- Lead meetings to communicate financial issues clearly, document decisions, and develop financial improvement plans when needed.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and document accounting procedures to meet evolving requirements.
- Set departmental goals that drive improvements for the department and the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance.
- CPA preferred, and/or one to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated leadership capability and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proven expertise in nonprofit settings, behavioral health, and/or Medicaid billing is strongly preferred.
