Steamboat Springs School District RE2 invites a strategic finance and operations leader to join onsite in Steamboat Springs, CO as Director of Finance and Operations. This contract role provides a salary range of USD 146,178 to 157,346 per year and oversight across the Finance, Facilities, Transportation and Nutritional Services departments. The position supports the Superintendent and the School Board on financial and budget matters, guides long term capital financing, and coordinates risk management, payroll and grants management. You will be part of the district leadership team, collaborate with the Director of Human Resources on benefits programs, and engage with state and national organizations. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Finance team in day to day operations and all functions of the monthly accounting cycle
  • Monitor, prepare, and coordinate development of the district annual budget and mid year update, aligning with District and Board goals
  • Arrange and coordinate external audit processes and report to Board
  • Serve on the Superintendent's leadership team
  • Active member of District Bargaining Team; develop and distribute information for negotiations with the local education association
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, providing leadership that fosters accountability in processes
  • Attend and participate in Board meetings and workshop sessions
  • Attend and participate in administrative level meetings
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent and Board on strategic vision, master facility plans and financial solutions to meet facility and program needs
  • Work with the Director of Human Resources regarding benefits programs and co lead the Health Insurance committee
  • Administer retirement programs
  • Oversee the financials of self funded insurance programs and coordinate with benefits consultants
  • Coordinate and act as legislative liaison for the District, monitor the legislative process and school finance laws, and communicate district wide issues (evening or off site meetings may be required)
  • Participate in state and national organizations
  • Prepare multi year financial projections for the Superintendent and Board for planning and fiscal responsibility; manage cash and investments including debt issuance
  • Prepare enrollment projections and assist the Superintendent in staff projections; prepare salary/wage schedules; work with HR on compensation surveys and pay structures
  • Maintain relationships and timely correspondence with the Colorado Department of Education and other regulatory agencies
  • Coordinate professional development needs with the Superintendent
  • Provide leadership for continual improvement to the district's financial data systems
  • Prepare annual financial reports and other reports required by the Board and state/federal agencies to ensure compliance
  • Provide financial and policy related information to the Board for information and decision making; ensure proper accounting processes and procedures
  • Direct administrative activities required for budget overrides and school bond issue elections
  • Supervise and evaluate managers
  • Participate in district wide initiatives
  • Provide advice and counsel to the Superintendent
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA is preferred
  • Education and/or training in budget management
  • Minimum 3 years experience in similar sized public or private organizations
  • Budget management with five or more years preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of Google software, Microsoft Office and District proprietary software
  • Trained in personnel supervision and performance evaluation
