Job Description
The Finance Director for the City of Cottage Grove leads the city's financial operations and provides strategic financial leadership to ensure fiscal stability, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Direct the city's fiscal operations and provide forward-looking financial leadership to support stability and growth.
- Promote financial stability and organizational sustainability while fostering accountability and teamwork.
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget, personnel cost forecasting, headcount planning, and long-range financial forecasting.
- Oversee debt issuance and risk management activities.
- Drive financial reporting, audits, and cash management processes.
- Monitor compliance with legislative and regulatory changes affecting municipal finance.
- Champion enhancements to financial systems and related process improvements.
- Head a cohesive team in day-to-day operations, policy implementation, and strengthening internal controls.
- Serve on the City's Executive Leadership Team and contribute to cross-departmental initiatives and organizational excellence.
- Collaborate with the City Manager, City Council, and department directors to maintain financial stability and sustainability while promoting accountability and teamwork.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public/Business Administration or a related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal finance, accounting, or budgeting, including at least three years in a supervisory or administrative leadership role.
- Knowledge of municipal budgeting, auditing standards, and financial reporting requirements.
- Proven leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $103,176 to $131,676 per year
- City pays 95% of premiums for Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
