Location: hybrid remote in Point Arena, CA. Technology focus includes Excel to support daily work.
Responsibilities
- Manage every aspect of accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
- Keep precise and timely financial records in line with GAAP and applicable governmental standards
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Track cash flow and maintain sufficient financial reserves
- Develop and enforce internal controls and financial policies
- Direct the yearly Tribal budgeting cycle
- Support departments and programs with budget development and forecasting
- Track expenditures relative to approved budgets
- Deliver variance analyses and financial recommendations to the Business Committee
- Support long-term financial planning and sustainability efforts
- Oversee financial management of all federal, state, and private grants
- Ensure adherence to funding requirements
- Monitor allowable costs and expenditures
- Prepare reimbursement requests and financial reporting
- Maintain full grant documentation for monitoring and audits
- Guide program managers on financial compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and Single Audits
- Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting materials
- Act as primary contact for external auditors
- Present financial reports to the Business Committee and leadership
- Address audit findings and implement corrective actions
- Develop, update, and enforce financial policies and procedures
- Maintain procurement controls and vendor payment processes
- Oversee accounting software and financial systems
- Ensure compliance with Tribal policies and funding regulations
- Act as liaison with banks, funders, auditors, and regulators
- Provide financial analysis to support Tribal initiatives and decision-making
- Perform additional finance-related duties as assigned by the Business Committee
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of financial management or governmental accounting experience
- Experience with federal grants and compliance
- Solid knowledge of GAAP
- Proficiency in accounting software and Excel
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
