Manager, Business Management - Product Owner, Strategic Finance & Transformation
Job Description
NextEra Energy, Inc. is hiring a hands-on Product Owner within the Transformation Office, part of the Business Management organization. In this role, you own a portfolio of decision-support products designed to improve multi-billion-dollar operating and capital decisions, while building adoption across the business.
Working onsite in Juno Beach, FL, US, you will bridge Business Management, operations, finance, and technical teams to translate business intent into precise requirements, drive delivery through production, and realize value in the ways teams actually work.
Role focus
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for assigned decision-support products: business problem definition, requirements, build, pilot, production release, and value realization.
- Translate business objectives into technical requirements by creating user stories, acceptance criteria, data requirements, and definitions of done that data scientists and engineers can build against.
- Own and prioritize the product backlog based on business value.
- Act as the conduit between business and technical teams by running working sessions to elicit real needs, constraints, and edge cases, then representing them faithfully to build teams while pushing back when solutions will not solve the problem.
Delivery, planning, and stakeholder cadence
- Drive execution across multiple concurrent workstreams with an integrated plan, milestones, dependencies, and risks.
- Run the operating cadence, including stand-ups, sprint reviews, and steering updates; chase decisions, remove blockers, and escalate early and specifically.
- Provide concise, executive-ready status updates, decision logs, and readouts tailored for field operations through senior leadership.
Adoption, governance, and value realization
- Own adoption and change management: design the decision process and workflow the product plugs into, build training and playbooks, recruit pilot sites and early users, and incorporate feedback.
- Drive usage to the point where legacy processes can be retired.
- Define and track success metrics, including adoption, decision quality and cycle time, and realized financial benefit, while maintaining a transparent back-cast of forecast versus actual value delivered.
- Guard analytical integrity by ensuring the built solution preserves objective business logic, including objective, constraints, cost treatment, and risk adjustment, and that data quality, controls, cybersecurity, compliance, and governance requirements are met.
Partner management and cross-portfolio coordination
- Manage external analytics and consulting partners on scope, deliverables, quality, and timeline while protecting internal ownership and ensuring knowledge transfer back to NextEra.
- Coordinate across the Transformation Office portfolio to surface overlaps, shared data foundations, and sequencing trade-offs so initiatives combine into one coherent operating model rather than a collection of tools.
Finance, risk, and asset optimization responsibilities
- Manage a team responsible for improving generating assets’ P and L, operations monitoring, and development and assessment of value-added ideas to optimize asset performance and increase profitability.
- Review proposed budgets and monthly forecasts, financial analyses, ad hoc reports, and modeling.
- Ensure compliance with power purchase agreements, land leases, financings, and regulatory requirements.
- Resolve issues across multiple assets and/or states and present findings and results to all levels of management.
- Work across the company in a manager or coordinator capacity, maintaining close working relationships with partners, customers, and stakeholders.
- Recommend hedging strategies and negotiate various commercial agreements.
- Lead or assist value-added projects, including support for regional leadership in strategic plan development, mergers and acquisitions, project development, asset optimization, restructurings, and relationship building with off-takers, landowners, and state and local regulators.
Technology and tools
- SQL, Python
- Databricks, Snowflake
- Jira, Azure DevOps
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data or Information Science, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (an advanced degree is a plus).
- 8+ years of experience (minimum requirement) in technical or data product management, product ownership, analytics delivery leadership, technical program management, or a comparable role translating business needs into analytics and software builds.
- Demonstrated ownership of at least one analytics, optimization, forecasting, or decision-support product from concept through production and into real business adoption, including a specific quantified outcome you can describe.
- Technical fluency to work as a counterpart to data scientists and engineers, including comfort discussing objective functions and constraints, model assumptions and validation, data pipelines and data quality, and trade-offs among accuracy, speed, and usability. SQL or Python literacy and hands-on experience with Databricks or Snowflake are strong pluses (not expected to build the models).
- Excellent requirements craft, including user stories, acceptance criteria, process and decision mapping, with discipline to make ambiguity concrete and testable.
- Proven execution and accountability across multi-workstream plans, dependencies and risk management, and early escalation. Experience with Agile ways of working and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Strong business judgment and financial literacy to understand decision economics, including revenue at risk, cost, capital, and risk-return trade-offs, with prioritization by value.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence, with clear concise executive-level written and verbal communication.
- A track record of driving adoption and behavior change, including pilots, training, playbooks, and retiring legacy ways of working.
Preferred qualifications
- Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
- 1+ years of supervisor/management experience.
- Experience in an asset-intensive industry (energy, utilities, renewables, aviation, rail, marine, mining, heavy manufacturing, or logistics).
- Familiarity with maintenance planning, scheduling or dispatch optimization, asset performance management, or total cost of ownership concepts.
- Experience working within or alongside a consulting or analytics partner delivery model.
- Experience with financial modeling, scenario analysis, or capital allocation frameworks.
