Tax Professional Assistant / Farm Financial Assistant
Job Description
At Nebraska Farm Business, Inc. (NFBI), this Farm Financial Assistant role supports Farm Financial Consultants as they work with farm families across Nebraska. The position focuses on client tax return support, financial analysis, and keeping accounting records organized so issues are caught early.
You will work onsite in Lincoln, collaborating closely with consultants, building practical experience with real client operations, and gradually taking on more responsibility as your judgment grows.
Role overview
- Collaborate with Farm Financial Consultants on client tax returns, financial analyses, cash flows, and depreciation schedules.
- Build and review client accounting records and learn to identify what is missing before it becomes a larger problem.
- Join client meetings across Nebraska to observe how consultants explain financial details to farm families.
- Increase the portion of work handled independently as experience builds.
- Represent NFBI at trade shows and producer meetings in the ag community.
Location, schedule, and pay
- Location: Lincoln, NE (onsite)
- Employment type: Full-time, hourly
- Pay: $27.00 - $28.50 per hour (about $56,000 - $59,000 per year at straight time)
- Overtime: Time and a half, with regular overtime November through April
- Work location: In person
What you would bring
- A degree in ag economics, agribusiness, accounting, finance, or business, or real experience in tax preparation, agricultural lending, or farm and ranch bookkeeping.
- Attention to detail.
- Excel comfort.
- A valid driver’s license.
- The ability to keep a confidence absolutely.
- Ag literacy: knowing a cow from a bull, what a combine does, and that a chopper is not a helicopter.

Expect the year to change
November through April is the busy stretch. Once harvest wraps and tax planning starts, clients are nearly every day and travel increases. Summers are calmer and more predictable, with fewer day-to-day pressures.
Travel typically runs about 10 to 20 overnight nights per year, mostly November, January, and March, plus a national conference each June.
