Position Summary
The Controller / Director of Finance partners with the Executive Director to lead the Foundation's accounting functions, overseeing both pooled and fiduciary accounting tied to investments managed for other nonprofit entities. The role centers on safeguarding the Foundation's fiscal integrity and producing reliable financial reporting for leadership and partners.
Work Location
Onsite in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the Foundation in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Advise on accounting policies, objectives, and guidelines relevant to the Foundation's activities.
- Collaborate with staff, consultants, and others to ensure efficient administration and execution of accounting tasks.
- Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, transfers, and inventory management.
- Direct fiduciary investment accounting activities, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and the calculation and allocation of investment income, gains or losses, and fees.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity to meet operational and fiduciary obligations.
- Maintain appropriate separation of duties and internal controls related to cash handling, investment transactions, and fiduciary accounting.
- Manage fund and pooled accounting systems used by the Foundation.
- Coordinate the development of the annual operating budget and monitor progress throughout the year.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for the Executive Director, the Board, and other key partners, including periodic summaries of financial activity.
- Prepare, file, and distribute all required tax and informational returns, including fiduciary and organizational filings.
- Coordinate the annual independent audit and prepare any required documentation.
- Coordinate annual reviews by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and similar organizations.
- Ensure compliance with governmental regulations, industry standards, board policies, and internal controls applicable to accounting activities.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies on accounting matters.
- Provide recommendations on policies, controls, guidelines, and procedures related to accounting activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive organizational and client information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or as customary in comparable roles.
Requirements
- A Christian who evidences a sincere faith and a deep commitment to the Foundation's mission.
- A member in good standing of a Baptist church cooperating with the Louisiana Baptist Convention.
- Satisfactory completion of a background check.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, preferably in accounting or finance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership and accounting experience, with a preference for nonprofit, fund-based, or fiduciary accounting environments.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic administrative and accounting software programs.
Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required; preferred focus in accounting or finance.
