Job Description
The Director of Finance is an executive-level leader responsible for financial operations and for guiding the organization toward sustainable growth. Working as a key member of the executive team, the role sets financial direction, strengthens reporting and controls, and supports strategic initiatives across the organization.
Financial Strategy and Executive Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive financial strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
- Provide leadership to the finance team, including mentorship in technical accounting practices such as accrual accounting, cost accounting, and technical finance concepts.
- Foster continuous improvement in financial operations and support a culture focused on collaboration and innovation.
Financial Reporting, Standards, and Compliance
- Oversee financial reporting activities, including financial statements, regulatory reports, and management reports.
- Ensure reporting is prepared in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, IAS, and applicable industry regulations.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements related to governmental accounting and non-profit accounting (if applicable), including ASC 606 revenue recognition standards and other relevant financial regulations.
Budgeting, Forecasting, and Cost Control
- Manage budgeting processes and financial forecasting models.
- Direct cost control initiatives to support fiscal health and operational efficiency.
Risk Management and Treasury Operations
- Conduct risk analysis and develop risk mitigation strategies to safeguard organizational assets and support compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee treasury management activities, including investment management, liquidity planning, and banking relationships to optimize cash flow.
Accounting Oversight and Data-Driven Finance
- Supervise core accounting functions, including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, cash flow analysis, and balance sheet management.
- Use advanced accounting systems and Excel data analysis tools to support accurate financial operations.
Business Development Support
- Collaborate with business development teams to evaluate new opportunities.
- Develop financial models for investment decisions and support strategic growth initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in finance leadership roles with extensive knowledge of financial analysis, corporate finance, and strategic management.
- Strong understanding of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IAS (International Accounting Standards), and industry-specific financial regulations.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial software systems, data analytics tools, and advanced Excel data analysis capabilities.
- Experience managing complex budgets, forecasting models, risk assessments, and compliance reporting within diverse sectors, including governmental or non-profit organizations, is highly desirable.
- Exceptional leadership skills for managing cross-functional teams and encouraging collaboration and innovation.
- Excellent communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and interpreting complex financial data for stakeholders at all levels.
- Technical proficiency in ASC 606 revenue recognition standards, cost management techniques, profit and loss analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, accounts receivable/payable processes, and cash flow management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA or CFA are preferred.
