Job Description
This onsite Director of Finance role in Lebanon, NH offers the opportunity to lead the organization’s financial operations, including monthly close, reporting, auditing, budgeting, internal controls, payroll, and staff leadership. Salary range: USD 76,590 - 104,483 per year. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and active CPA licensure are required, with at least five years of progressive accounting experience, including two in a supervisory capacity.
Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly close process, review and approve general ledger journal entries, reconciliations, and the preparation of internal financial statements, aiming to publish statements by the tenth business day of each month.
- Perform a comprehensive monthly review of general ledger reconciliations and alert the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer to material adjustments or issues.
- Guide and supervise the annual external audit and tax preparation services, including Form 990, and ensure timely, accurate delivery of schedules requested by auditors.
- Analyze revenue and expense accounts on a monthly basis and present findings to agency leadership.
- Prepare and review monthly general ledger entries to record estimates, corrections, and reclassifications as needed.
- Oversee external financial reporting to regulatory and funding agencies such as NH DHHS, NH Housing & Finance Authority, NEAH, and others as required.
- Lead the development of expense schedules and financial inputs for the annual operating budget under the direction of the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer.
- Maintain and reconcile the agency fixed asset ledger and depreciation schedules on a monthly basis.
- Track and reconcile replacement, insurance, and tax reserve accounts for residential and rental entities; submit expenditures for reimbursement as warranted.
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring compliance with payroll tax filings and minimizing post-processing corrections.
- Monitor Finance Department workload and adjust staffing and workflows as needed.
- Provide comprehensive and equitable performance evaluations for all employees in the reporting line.
- Review and approve weekly timesheets to ensure accuracy and timely completion within deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with grant and contract financial reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Proven ability to supervise, develop, and evaluate staff effectively.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret complex financial information to support accurate reporting and sound decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- High integrity with the capacity to handle sensitive, confidential matters discreetly and professionally.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to software and technical needs of the position and agency.
- Experience with Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), or similar nonprofit accounting systems.
- Familiarity with CCBHC cost reporting, Medicaid billing, and NH DHHS reporting requirements.
- Prior experience in a community mental health or behavioral health setting.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure required.
