Job Description
The Financial Controller / Director of Finance will steer the Finance and Accounting function from Tukwila, ensuring accurate reporting, robust controls, disciplined accounting practices, and clear visibility into financial performance to support profitable growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the full Finance and Accounting department, including accounting staff, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and financial reporting.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, delivering accurate statements on time.
- Produce and maintain precise profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and department-specific financial reporting.
- Develop processes for weekly and mid-month financial reporting to provide leadership with early performance visibility.
- Maintain and enhance the chart of accounts, accounting procedures, internal controls, and the overall financial reporting framework.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including cash collections, vendor payments, aging analyses, and reconciliation workflows.
- Supervise payroll accounting, commissions, bonuses, and other compensation-related processes.
- Manage bank, credit card, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Ensure proper recognition and classification of revenue and expenses.
- Maintain accurate job costing and COGS reporting, including labor, materials, subcontractors, commissions, and other direct costs.
- Analyze gross margin by branch, job type, product, crew, and other relevant segments.
- Identify margin leakage, discrepancies, unnecessary expenses, and opportunities to improve profitability.
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and clearly explain significant variances.
- Build financial dashboards and KPIs that provide leadership with clear visibility into revenue, gross margin, overhead, marketing spend, labor costs, cash flow, and profitability.
- Collaborate with Operations, Sales, Marketing, and executive leadership to enhance financial accountability across departments.
- Manage relationships with external CPAs, tax professionals, auditors, banks, insurers, and other financial partners.
- Coordinate tax preparation, compliance requirements, year-end reporting, and external financial reviews.
- Ensure documentation and controls are in place to protect assets and mitigate financial risk.
- Build scalable accounting processes capable of supporting growth, additional branches, and expansion into new markets.
- Recruit, train, develop, and hold accountable members of the Finance and Accounting team.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- 3+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, or similar leadership role.
- Proven experience managing an accounting or finance team.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, financial statements, general ledger accounting, and internal controls.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Experience overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Solid understanding of job costing and gross margin analysis.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
- Experience with QuickBooks or comparable accounting/ERP systems.
- Ability to build processes and reporting systems in a fast-growing organization.
- Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to executives and non-financial leaders.
- High level of ownership, accountability, urgency, and integrity.

Pay
Salary range: USD 140,000.00 - 190,000.00 per year.
Experience
Controller level experience is required, with a minimum of 3 years in such a role.
