Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and a range of reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closes and deliver monthly financial statements.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, depreciation schedules, prepayments, accruals, and related month-end and year-end schedules.
  • Support the preparation of documentation for financial statements, audits, and tax filings.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with variance and trend analysis and executive reporting.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accuracy of weekly payroll, providing guidance and checks as needed.
  • Develop scalable accounting systems, controls, and reporting processes to support growth and evolving operations; maintain policy documentation and implement internal controls.
  • Create operational and financial performance metrics to measure profitability, efficiency, and project execution.
  • Support audits and information needs for 401(k), workers’ compensation, general liability, 5500 filings, and related matters with HR.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Coordinate long-range financial planning and develop strategies to meet capital and liquidity needs.
  • Implement financial strategies to improve profitability, cash flow, efficiency, and return on invested capital.
  • Partner with executive leadership to analyze pricing, backlog, equipment utilization, labor productivity, and overall performance.
  • Advance job profitability reporting, WIP analysis, and MAC forecasting processes.
  • Monitor KPIs including gross margin, labor productivity, equipment recovery, overhead absorption, cash conversion cycle, and DSO.
  • Assist leadership with banking relationships, lender reporting, surety relationships, and capital structure planning.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and liquidity management to support planning and strategic decisions.
  • Assess operational and financial risks and recommend improvements to internal controls and project visibility.
  • Support acquisition integration, ERP implementations, and process improvements across the organization.
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to improve estimating accuracy, change orders, billing efficiency, and project closeout.

  • Proven track record of driving accountability, improving processes, and influencing operational decisions through financial leadership.
  • Hands-on leadership capable of operating both strategically and tactically in a growing organization.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience within the construction industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Proficient to advanced knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, and Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
  • ERP migration experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting concepts such as percent-of-completion, WIP schedules, MAC forecasting, and project-based analysis.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations, process improvements, and system integrations preferred.
  • Experience supporting banking, bonding, and external audits preferred.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

The role requires regular standing or sitting for extended periods, talking and listening, and the use of a keyboard and phone. Close vision is needed for computer work, and there may be light to moderate lifting.
