Job Description

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems is seeking an Accounting/Finance Manager III to lead contract revenue accounting, oversee a dedicated team, and ensure compliance with ASC 606, US GAAP, and government contracting regulations. This onsite role in Poway, California focuses on driving accurate revenue recognition and favorable financial outcomes for diverse government and commercial programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of contract revenue accounting operations supporting United States Government, Foreign Military Sales and Direct Commercial Sales programs.
  • Develop and manage a high‑performing contract accounting team with a strong compliance and engagement focus.
  • Ensure adherence to ASC 606, US GAAP, FAR, DFARS, CAS, and applicable government contracting regulations across contracts and modifications.
  • Proactively support contract capture, proposal, and award activities to achieve desired revenue recognition and financial outcomes.
  • Review contracts, modifications, and proposals to determine appropriate accounting treatment, risk, cash‑flow impacts, and audit readiness.
  • Manage revenue recognition for long‑term, milestone‑based, firm‑fixed‑price, cost‑plus, and incentive‑based contracts.
  • Support accurate and timely financial reporting, including month‑end close, reconciliations, contract assets and liabilities, Estimate at Completion, and consolidated financial statements.
  • Collaborate with Program Finance, FP&A, Contracts, and Program Managers to monitor financial performance, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to resolve financial, operational, and contract accounting challenges.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and governance frameworks aligned with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Ensure strong internal controls and SOX compliance, adhering to company financial policies and accounting practices.
  • Support internal and external audits, DCAA and DCMA reviews, and RCA activities with audit‑defensible documentation and analysis.
  • Drive process improvement, automation, ERP and SAP integration, and organizational change management to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial, contractual, export‑controlled, and business information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline and eleven or more years of progressively complex experience in finance or accounting, with work in a commercial or government contractor environment. Equivalent experience may substitute for the degree.
  • An MBA in accounting or finance, CPA or CMA certification, major accounting firm experience, and/or experience negotiating accounting issues with government agencies is highly desirable.
  • Experience preferred in Warranty Accounting, Offset Accounting, and/or Cost Share (for example, research and development) accounting.
  • Proven ability to apply industry and government finance and accounting management principles with leadership skills to organize, plan, schedule, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to resolve complex management and finance/accounting problems; act as a program spokesperson; and demonstrate expertise in one or more finance/accounting management areas.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of working autonomously and in a team environment, with willingness to work extended hours and travel as required.

Compensation

Annual salary range: USD 100,290 to USD 183,098.
