Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer oversees the agency’s fiscal operations, including budgeting, funding reporting, and audit integrity to maintain financial stability.
Overview
- Position: Chief Financial Officer
- Organization: Mental Health Association in New Jersey, Inc.
- Location: Springfield, NJ onsite
- Salary: USD 140,000 - 160,000 per year
- Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA
Responsibilities
- Manage all accounting functions including the general ledger, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, purchasing, and related financial activities
- Partner with Human Resources to administer payroll and employee benefits
- Oversee the IT function to ensure compliance with technology policies and procedures
- Lead the budgeting process, including annual budget development and ongoing monthly monitoring
- Forecast cash flow needs and advise on short term and long term borrowing
- Prepare financial reports for submission to the CEO, Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, Senior Admin Team, and grant/revenue sources
- Coordinate the annual audit with the agency's accounting firm, including schedules and documents for the audit team
- Attend required Board meetings, Finance Committee meetings, and other committee meetings as needed
- Perform initial reviews of documents for loans, leases, equipment purchases, and other contractual items
- Interface with contract administrators and fiscal management staff to ensure programs align with budgets and reporting schedules
- Oversee banking relationships and establish new relationships as needed
- Manage risk through collaboration with insurance agents to ensure adequate coverage
- Develop and maintain an accounting policies and procedures manual
- Oversee retention and destruction of agency records
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA designation
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
- Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards
- Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills
