Job Description
Responsibilities
- General Ledger Oversight - Manage the chart of accounts, journal entries, reconciliations, and monthend/yearend close.
- Financial Reporting - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, KPI dashboards, forecasting, and operational reports.
- Internal Controls - Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and auditready documentation.
- Cash Management - Oversee cash flow, treasury functions, and financial integrity.
- AuditRegulatory Support - Lead audit preparation, tax filings, and regulatory financial reporting.
- PayrollAP/AR Oversight - Ensure accurate payroll processing, vendor payments, and receivables management.
- Billing and Revenue Cycle Leadership - Provide leadership oversight of billing, accounts receivable, collections, payment posting, claims management, denial management, and unbilled claims monitoring.
- Reimbursement Performance Monitoring - Monitor reimbursement performance across Medicare, Medicaid/MassHealth, managed care, and commercial payers.
- Revenue Cycle Metrics - Develop and track key revenue cycle metrics, including DSO, collection rates, denial trends, cash collections, outstanding unsigned orders, and unbilled visits.
- Operational and Financial Barriers - Identify barriers impacting reimbursement and cash flow.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with operations, clinical, quality, utilization, and intake teams to improve reimbursement workflows and accountability.
- Billing Readiness and Compliance - Oversee financial and operational processes to ensure billing readiness and reimbursement compliance.
- Clinical Coordination - Partner with clinical leadership, quality assurance, and intake to ensure timely physician orders, completed certifications/recertifications, and required documentation for billing.
- Workflow Optimization - Partner with clinical leadership, quality assurance, and intake to ensure operational workflows support efficient reimbursement.
- Unsigned Orders and Documentation - Monitor aging of unsigned orders, incomplete documentation, and other reimbursement barriers.
- Reporting and Accountability - Develop reporting and accountability structures to improve billing timeliness and collections.
- Strategic Reimbursement Improvements - Serve as a financial and operational resource for reimbursement related workflow improvements.
- Annual Budget Leadership - Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Financial and Operational Models - Develop models related to census growth, staffing utilization, reimbursement trends, productivity, and margin improvement.
- Variance Analysis - Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to leadership.
- Strategic Planning - Support strategic financial planning and operational decisionmaking.
- Profitability Analysis - Perform profitability analysis by region, discipline, payer, or program.
- Medicare/Medicaid Cost Reports - Prepare or oversee preparation of Medicare and Medicaid/MassHealth cost reports.
- Audit Submissions - Coordinate supporting schedules and documentation for audits and regulatory submissions.
- Regulatory Changes - Monitor reimbursement regulation changes and advise leadership on financial impacts.
- Optimization Opportunities - Identify opportunities for reimbursement optimization while maintaining compliance.
- Team Leadership - Supervise and mentor finance, billing, and reimbursement staff.
- Culture and Improvement - Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Executive Collaboration - Work closely with executive leadership, operations, clinical management, payroll, and quality assurance.
- Organizational Planning - Participate in organizational planning and operational improvement initiatives.
- Operational Reporting - Support the development of operational reporting structures and performance accountability systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–10 years of progressive healthcare finance or accounting leadership experience
- Strong understanding of Medicare and Medicaid/MassHealth reimbursement
- Experience in home health, hospice, behavioral health, or postacute care
- Expertise in healthcare revenue cycle operations, billing, collections, and cost reporting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Knowledge of accrual-based accounting
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting proficiency
- Supervisory experience
