Job Description
Jefferson Community College is seeking a Technical Specialist in Financial Operations to oversee payroll processing, cash receipts, and general department support. This onsite role in Watertown, NY sits within the college’s Financial Operations team, offering a salary in the USD 40,000 to 45,000 per year range and a focus on accurate financial postings and robust internal controls.
General purpose
The Technical Specialist supports the Financial Operations Department by processing payroll, handling cash receipt transactions, and delivering administrative assistance. The position ensures precise recording and posting of financial activities to the general ledger while upholding established procedures and internal controls.
Responsibilities
- Assist payroll by gathering, reviewing, and processing time sheets and faculty workload.
- Maintain payroll accuracy and timeliness through regular reviews, verifications, and necessary adjustments.
- Maintain payroll records and aid with updates, corrections, and system entries to ensure data integrity.
- Support payroll-related financial activities, including reporting and documentation.
- Assist with compliance and required reporting, including periodic filings, year-end processes, and audit preparation.
- Support payroll systems and accounting by maintaining data, assisting with processes, and contributing to ongoing verification and reporting activities.
- Process and record cash receipts and deposit transactions in line with established procedures.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and account variances.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.
Requirements
- An associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- At least two years of experience in accounting, payroll, and/or administrative operations.
- Experience with Banner and/or payroll systems.
- Strong ability to interact and communicate effectively with diverse populations, fostering inclusion and promoting equal access and treatment in higher education.
