Job Description

The VP of Finance and Capital Markets at MSU Federal Credit Union provides strategic leadership for financial planning, analysis, and reporting to support data-driven decision-making and accurate forecasting. The role directs investment, liquidity, and treasury activities while overseeing asset and liability management, risk assessment, and pricing for loans and deposits, and it focuses on building a high-performing finance team aligned with the Credit Union’s objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the organization’s financial planning, performance analysis, and reporting to support precise decision-making and forecasting.
  • Guide the investment, liquidity, and treasury programs while maintaining regulatory compliance and prudent business practices.
  • Oversee asset liability management, assess interest rate risk, and set pricing strategies for loans and deposits.
  • Direct operations related to bank accounts, investments, and balance sheet stewardship to optimize safety, liquidity, and yield.
  • Build and cultivate a high-performing finance team to sustain organizational success.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate the Finance Department's strategic direction and objectives, aligning with the Credit Union's overall strategy.
  • Create policies, procedures, and offerings to enhance member and employee service, safeguard the Credit Union, boost productivity, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee planning, budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning for executive and board review.
  • Manage the investment portfolio and propose strategies grounded in market conditions.
  • Direct asset and liability management, perform interest rate risk analysis, and participate in ALCO committee activities.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise CECL methodology, alongside quarterly reviews of reserve adequacy.
  • Monitor performance metrics, conduct financial analyses, and present trends and forecasts to senior leadership and the Board.
  • Participate in assessing strategic growth opportunities.
  • Lead and develop finance leadership and staff through hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Coordinate audits and examinations, address findings, and maintain productive relationships with auditors and regulators.
  • Serve on cross-functional committees and collaborate with other departments to improve financial performance and overall success.
  • Foster risk awareness and accountability by understanding the enterprise risk management program and aligning with objectives, risk appetite, and the risk landscape.
  • Understand and oversee policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks.
  • Adhere to internal controls to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain operational integrity.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Location

The position follows a hybrid work arrangement with on-site presence required at the Credit Union’s Headquarters in East Lansing, Michigan, at a minimum once per month.

Schedule

Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Time, with an average workload of 40 to 50 hours per week. Some after-hours or weekend leadership functions or events may be required.
