Director of Finance
Job Description
Northern Hills UMC is seeking a Director of Finance in San Antonio, TX to support the church’s financial health and integrity. In this onsite role, you will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, help maintain accurate records, and support the Executive Director with budgeting, reporting, and fiduciary oversight for a $4M+ annual budget.
What you’ll do
- Keep financial records current and accurate, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
- Process invoices, reimbursements, check requests, and credit card transactions
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and vendor accounts on a monthly basis
- Prepare and process payroll
- Record tithes, offerings, and designated gifts with accuracy and confidentiality
- Generate giving statements and support donor record maintenance
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports alongside the Executive Director
- Support budget tracking and forecasting
- Maintain compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and audit requirements
- Prepare documentation for annual audits
- Maintain organized financial files and digital records
- Assist with grant reporting and financial documentation for funded programs
- Communicate professionally with staff, vendors, and ministry leaders regarding financial matters
- Negotiate contracts with vendors
Qualifications
- Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial administration
- Proficiency with accounting software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of nonprofit or fund accounting principles
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience in a church or nonprofit environment
- Familiarity with donor management systems
- Basic knowledge of grant reporting or restricted funds
Location and compensation
This role is onsite in San Antonio, TX, with a salary range of USD 109,738 - 127,151 per year.
