Job Description

Finance Manager opportunity at Holy Family Retreat and Conference Center in West Hartford, CT, overseeing the Finance team and coordinating financial operations under the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash flow oversight.
  • Authorize and process biweekly payroll submissions.
  • Generate financial reporting packages, including monthly, annual, and budget-to-actual statements.
  • Prepare financial reports for grant and contract requirements.
  • Develop annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
  • Lead the month-end close, produce financial statements, compare results to budget, and deliver variance analysis.
  • Produce weekly cash flow activity reports.
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely recording of journal entries.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Assess current processes and internal controls, recommending improvements.
  • Coordinate external auditors and serve as the primary liaison with them.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor personnel within the Finance Department.
  • Assume additional managerial duties as appropriate to the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance is required.
  • Nonprofit finance experience with a successful track record in a Senior Financial Management role leading a team for at least 8+ years.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, particularly for nonprofits.
  • Technology savvy with the ability to manage data for financial reporting quickly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite Oracle required, familiarity with AccuFund a plus.
  • Aptitude for leveraging AI tools into daily workflows a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills including macros (VBA), multi-workbook linking, named cells, and functions such as VLOOKUP, double VLOOKUP, IF statements, and CONCATENATE.
  • Knowledge of CSV files and converting them to Excel formats.
  • Experience downloading and uploading files between different financial systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook) and a willingness to learn new software.
  • Extreme flexibility with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial mindset to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks and projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to clearly convey ideas and issues to all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours beyond the normal schedule when necessary.
