Job Description

Fish Furniture is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to lead day-to-day accounting activities and translate financial results into practical recommendations for management. This onsite role in Cleveland, OH combines bookkeeping ownership with budgeting, cash forecasting, reporting, and cross-department coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online, including A/P, A/R, and G/L entries and records.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, merchant settlements, customer deposits, and related retail system balances.
  • Resolve discrepancies and maintain a reliable audit trail.
  • Manage the month-end close, including inventory and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliation, plus balance sheet account reviews.
  • Coordinate commission accounting, tax payments and filings, and maintain a deadline calendar.
  • Maintain payment approvals, cash handling controls, and appropriate separation of duties.
  • Protect confidential information and promptly escalate errors or unusual transactions.
  • Prepare organized records for accountants supporting FYE financial statement and tax preparation.
  • Produce weekly financial and operating dashboards; monthly income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements; and quarterly and annual financial summaries.
  • Compare performance against budget, prior periods, and prior year results.
  • Explain material changes in sales, gross margin, expenses, earnings, and cash flow, including clear recommendations.
  • Distinguish booked orders, delivered sales, customer deposits, and recognized revenue.
  • Reconcile dashboard outputs to accounting records, disclosing estimates or incomplete data.
  • Analyze performance by store, product category, supplier, and other business segments where reliable data is available.
  • Partner with purchasing, sales, warehouse, and delivery staff to investigate underlying drivers.
  • Lead the annual budget process: set assumptions, gather inputs, build the financial plan, and document management approval.
  • Maintain monthly budget-to-actual reporting and update forecasts.
  • Identify emerging gaps, recommend corrective actions, and track follow-through with responsible managers.
  • Maintain a rolling cash forecast, including weekly expected receipts, vendor payments, payroll, taxes, and other commitments; flag potential shortfalls early.
  • Continuously review vendor pricing, freight and delivery costs, insurance, payment processing fees, labor costs, and quantify savings opportunities and implementation costs.
  • Work with leaders to implement approved improvements.
  • Use QuickBooks Online, Excel, and connected business systems to improve reporting accuracy and reduce manual effort.
  • Use AI tools for appropriate tasks such as drafting variance explanations, assisting with analysis, and documenting processes.
  • Improve workflows for invoices, receipts, approvals, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Document procedures so work remains repeatable and can be covered by others.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant bookkeeping or accounting experience, including independent responsibility for month-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel, including formulas, to analyze financial and operating data.
  • Experience preparing budgets, forecasts, cash projections, and variance analysis, with the ability to explain financial results to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Practical familiarity with AI, computer systems, sound judgment, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals, attention to detail, integrity, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
