Job Description

The Lead Finance Manager provides regional financial oversight across eight Cornell Cooperative Extension Associations in the Capital Region, delivering hands-on accounting support, training, and payroll assistance while managing finances for one assigned association. The role encompasses budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, grants administration, audits, and cross‑agency collaboration, and is based onsite in Voorheesville, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Offer regional financial leadership to eight Capital Region CCE Associations through hands-on accounting support, financial guidance, training, and payroll functions.
  • Enhance budgeting, forecasting, reporting, internal controls, regulatory compliance, grant management, and audit and year-end processes.
  • Provide interim finance support to cover vacancies and other staffing transitions.
  • Deliver direct financial management services for one designated CCE Association.
  • Communicate clearly with executive directors, staff, and board members, including those with limited financial or accounting expertise.
  • Perform routine accounting tasks and processes.
  • Lead training sessions and deliver presentations on financial topics.
  • Address and resolve complex financial challenges with practical solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Administration and other statewide Finance Leads to maintain shared financial software, policies, procedures, and consistent practices.
  • Participate as a member of the regional Shared Business Network team alongside an IT Lead and an HR Lead.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (or an Associate's degree with two years of related experience may substitute for a bachelor's).
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting standards (GAAP) and skills in budgeting and audits.
  • Proficiency with financial software including ERP systems (Acumatica, QuickBooks) and MS Office Suite.

Pay

Salary: $85,000 per year
