Job Description
AFSCME C4 is seeking a Financial Coordinator to manage financial and bookkeeping duties, coordinate employee benefits, and assist the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely processing of Council finances. This on-site, full-time position in New Britain, Connecticut offers a salary of $87,122 per year.
Responsibilities
- Manages accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices, expenses, and per capita taxes.
- Performs payroll duties: computes payroll, handles electronic submissions, and updates payroll as needed; responds to deferred income inquiries and prepares reports and loan applications.
- Completes state and federal quarterly and annual tax filings.
- Oversees central dues collection.
- Coordinates employee benefits by gathering information, initiating, and revising benefits such as health, life, pension, credit union, and deferred income.
- Researches and assists Council 4 employees in resolving insurance-related problems.
- Maintains accounts across multiple bank and investment accounts (Trust, Working, PAC, Solidarity, Building Corp., Smith Barney, and other accounts).
- Compiles and analyzes political action reports and oversees political action records.
- Manages quarterly and annual Sales & Use Tax reporting.
- Prepares tax-related compilations, including annual property tax data for accountants.
- Coordinates conferences and conventions, maintains yellow pages advertising, and operates the postage meter.
Requirements
- High school diploma and seven years of bookkeeping or accounting experience in a responsible position.
- Education beyond high school may substitute for experience at a rate of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (1/2) year of experience.
- Strong computer skills essential, including accounting software and spreadsheets.
- Ability to coordinate and compile a high volume of material in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to identify and apply complex statues related to the union’s financial activities.
- Proficient math skills needed for bookkeeping.
- Ability to research and apply employee benefits coverage.
- Accounts payable: 7 years (Required).
