Job Description
The Business & Finance Manager role at the Quincy Mine Hoist Association combines practical accounting leadership with strategic financial oversight to support the Executive Director and organizational operations from a hybrid work arrangement in Hancock, Michigan. This part-time position offers growth opportunities and a pathway toward greater responsibilities within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including bookkeeping, payroll, deposits, transactions, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain financial reports such as budgets, balance sheets, income statements, and cash-flow analyses.
- Present the organization’s financial health to the Executive Director and Board in clear, actionable terms.
- Maintain organized, accurate, and compliant financial systems, records, and procedures.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and support organizational growth.
- Provide steady leadership to administrative staff, offering guidance and support.
- Collaborate with department leaders to understand needs, address issues, and ensure smooth operations.
Requirements
- Background in office management or administrative support is desirable.
- Associates degree or higher in Business Administration, a relevant field, or comparable experience in accounting, finance, or business administration.
- Practical experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or small business management.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks, payroll, reconciliations, financial reporting, budgets, and day-to-day operations.
- Good judgment, confidentiality, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to explain financial information in plain English.
- Supportive leadership style with the confidence to guide junior administrative staff.
- A commitment to becoming a long-term, trusted member of the organization’s future.

What We Offer
- The role may begin part-time or move toward full-time based on experience and availability. For a full-time hire, compensation starts at $55,000 – $65,000 per year, or the equivalent hourly rate if starting part-time. The position may evolve into full-time fairly quickly for the right candidate. Pay is negotiable and tied to knowledge and experience.
- Paid time off and schedule flexibility are provided, but this is not a remote-only arrangement. Some tasks may be performed remotely; however, ongoing presence, engagement, and involvement in the organization are expected.
